$18K Donation Made to Kings Park Schools

Park View PFA makes large donation in what they call a "historic year."

A donation of $18,537,00 was made to the Kings Park Central School District in May by the Park View Parent Faculty Association.

The donation includes four interactive Smartboards, four laptop computers, two projectors and accessories needed to mount the Smartboards.

“This was a historical year, every PFA has donated Smartboards in the past but this year’s success comes from our members, even though the economy was bad, our members really stepped up – they made it happen,” said Fran Sullo, president of the PFA for the past four years and a member of the board for five.

Sullo credits yearly fundraisers such as Ladies Night Out as well as a plant sale, book fair and a fundraiser at Ralph’s Italian Ices as part of the success.

“We try and mix it up every year so we are not doing the same thing over and over.  We also do so many so the parents can pick and choose which fundraiser they would like to participate in. and all are optional,” she said.

According to Sullo the board and her board values technology and its critical role in the classroom as well and believe that Smartboards make learning more interactive and fun.

“Over the last five years that I have been on the board, this has been our goal, to get Parkview up to date with today’s technology,” she added.

According to the global technology think-tank, Futuresource Consulting, one in every seven classrooms in the world will have Interactive Whiteboards (Smartboards) by this year.  Parkview now exceeds that number.  The elementary school now has a total of fifteen Smartboards, leaving them only eight short of having every classroom in the school equipped with one.

“We have a long way to go in this district to get up to speed with technology but Park View is more than halfway there,” said Sullo.

This is Sullo’s last year on the Parkview Board and she says this is a great way to go out.   She reiterated her gratitude to her board and every single PFA member for making this technology dream a reality for Parkview students.

“We had amazing support this year and I am very proud of what we all have accomplished,” said Sullo.
