VIDEO: Irene Hits Kings Park Bluff

Gusting winds and high water as Irene comes ashore in Kings Park.

Hurricane Irene blew into town in the early morning hours of Sunday kicking up the surf at Smithtown Bay. About a half-dozen people braved the conditions to watch the storm at Kings Park bluff.

As of 8 a.m. Sunday morning large trees were down on St. Johnland Road and Old Dock Road making parts of it impassable. LIPA is reporting that 1,242 customers are without power in Kings Park and 25,430 in the town of Smithtown.

Street lights were out in front of St. Joseph's Church and Old Dock Road. Main Street was virtually empty Sunday morning as the high winds continued.
