Storm Knocks Out Power for Bernard Street Residents

A late afternoon thunderstorm blew through the Fort Salonga and Kings Park area on Friday causing an uprooted tree and a power outage on a residential street.

The storm came through the area about 4 p.m. Residents on Bernard Street in Fort Salonga lost power when an uprooted tree took down power lines as well as telephone and cable lines in the area, according to Kings Park fire officials.

The fire department checked several area homes for any fire hazards and notified the Long Island Power Authority and the town's highway department to repair damages.
