$1K Raised in Anti-Bullying Event

Students linked arms in an attempt to break a world record and to stand up against bullying.

The Kings Park community came out Friday evening and took a stand against bullying and united, they raised $1,000 for anti-drug youth programs.

Luke Carlin, son of Anne Carlin who organized the event in conjunction with Kings Park in the Know and the Kings Park Civic Association, told Newsday, that he was inspired to take a stand against bullying after seeing a news story about a teen who committed suicide after being bullied. Luke said he had been a target of bullying as well.

The group set out to break two world records Friday night. The first was an attempt to get the largest number of people to stand up simultaneously while keeping their arms linked. They were able to capture on film, 101 people standing up and will send the video to the Guinness Book of World Records for review.

Their next attempt was to create a peace sign out of people holding glow sticks. According to Newsday, nearly 100 people participated, but the record was not broken and is held by a Canadian university’s chemistry department, who got 308 people to hold glow sticks spelling out “H2O.”
