It was a win-win situation on Sunday at this year’s Georgetown Cupcake raffle at the Kings Park Farmers Market held by the the Kings Park Civic Association and Friends & Farmers Inc.
Not only did the raffle raise just over $1500 for some worthy causes, the winner, Marcela Falcone of Kings Park, graciously decided to donate her winnings back to the Kings Park Civic Association, allowing them to use the sweet prize for another event.
Raffle tickets were sold at the past two farmers market events, with the grand prize being a year’s worth of cupcakes from the famed Georgetown Cupackes. Kings Park Civic Association, Friends and Farmers Inc. teamed up again with former Kings Park resident Terrence Noonan and producer of the TLC reality television show “DC Cupcakes”, to sponsor the raffle.
“She was very excited to win, but she graciously donated it back,” said co-chair of the Kings Park Civic Association Farmer’s Market Committee, Aly Elish-Swartz. “We can use it for another one of our events in the fall.”
Through the raffle, the Civic Association raised $1,502, with a big donation of $200 given at the end. All the money from the raffle tickets went to help support the St. Joseph’s Church food pantry and the Greg Szurnicki Memorial Scholarship Fund for Kings Park High School graduates.
The Kings Park Farmers Market happens every Sunday until mid-November, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the municipal parking lot across from the fire department on Main Street.
