Season Recap: Softball Set for State Championship

The Lady Kingsmen will take on South Glen on Saturday.

On Saturday, Lindsay Taylor and the girls of the Kings Park Softball team will try to cap their big, record–breaking season with a championship win.

Looking back, game one was certainly no indication of what was to come. The team lost 16-1 to Deer Park.

But Coach Kim McGinley in her 12th year said was confident that the team would work the kinks out. The team went on to defeat Deer Park 5-0 in thier second game, and they kept winning.

Taylor spent all season proving her skill in the circle. Inn her third perfect game of the season she struck out 14 and surpassed 1,000 career strikeouts in a game against East Hampton.

Taylor added another notch to her belt when she struck out her 1,097th batter of her career in a 12-0 victory over Huntington making her the all-time strikeout leader in Suffolk County.

Kings Park High School’s trophy case got some nice additions this year; Class A Championship and the Long Island Title.

On Saturday the team heads to the NYSPHSAA championship tournament at the Adirondack Sport Complex in Glen Falls taking on South Glen at 9 a.m. If they win they will then play for a state championship at 2 p.m.
