Local Students to Participate in State Delegate Program

American Legion chooses several high school students to attend week long event.

Kings Park High School students and Michael Thorne have been chosen by the American Legion to be its Boys and Girls State Delegates for 2011.

The two were chosen by the Donald C. Munro Post No. 944. Students Matthew Donoghue and Thomas Feeley were accepted to attend by two other American Legion posts in Suffolk County while Kayleigh Hone was picked as an alternate.

Criteria for the selection is based on leadership, character, honesty and maturity among other things said the legion. Students must also undergo a personal interview by representatives of the American Legion.

“The legions’ sincere interest in Kings Park students and their generosity is very much appreciated by the students, parents and school officials,” said a representative for the school.

 The Boys State and Girls State will take place from June 26th through July 2nd at State University of  Morrisville and Brockport sampuses. Students will join boys and girls from American Legion Posts throughout New York State to form a mythical 51st  state. The delegates will participate in programs about government, politics, campaigning and elections.
