KP High School Senior Named National Merit Finalist

Shannon Wetzler named to finalist group.

Kings Park High School senior Shannon Wetzler has been named a 2012 National Merit Finalist.

The National Merit Scholarship Program, which began in 1955, is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. High school students enter the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which serves as an initial screen of more than 1.5 million entrants each year. Annually 15,000 Finalists reach the Finalist group.

There are 8,200 Merit Scholarship winners of three different scholarships: National Merit $2500 Scholarships, corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship Awards and college-sponsored Merit Scholarship Awards.
