Kings Park Student Named Intel Semifinalist

Bhavani Ananthabhotla, 17, conducted science research at Stony Brook university.

A Kings Park High School student has been selected as one  of 50 Long Islanders and 300 nationwide to be a semifinalist in the 2014 Intel Talent Science Search. 

Bhavani Ananthabhotla, 17, was recognized for her work with Dr. Clinton Rubin & Ete Chan at Stony Brook University where she researched, "The Efficacy of Mechanical Stimulation to Improve Cortical Bone Quality in a Diet-induced Obesity Model, as determined by an Investigation of mechanical, Areal and Material Property."

Ananthabhotla will receive $1,000 for being named an Intel semifinalist. School receive $1,000 for each semifinalist in their schools. 

Out of the 300 semifinalists named, 40 finalists will be chosen to attend the Intel ScienceTalent Institute in Washington, DC in March where they will undergo further judging and share $630,000 in awards. The finalists will be announced on Jan. 22.
