Kings Park Schools Closed For Monday

Kings Park School District will be closed on Monday.

The district, along with several other districts, such at Three Village, Port Jefferson and Mount Sinai have decided to close.

Smithtown officials said highway department personnel were working 14 hour shifts in an effort to get the roads clear by Sunday evening. Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sunday said 529 pieces of equipment are being sent to the region that in some parts has nearly three feet of snow on the ground.

The National Weather Service has issued a freezing rain advisory for Suffolk County, effective Monday from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m., and potentially causing a headache for the morning commute.

The forecast is calling for another weather system to push across the area Sunday night, bringing a bout of freezing rain, mixed with sleet and snow, during the Monday morning commute from 3 a.m. until about 9 a.m., when the system should turn to all rain.
