Football Standout Heads to Top Military Academy

Senior Michael Thorne will attend the US Merchant Marine Academy.

Kings Park High School senior Michael Thorne has been recognized as an outstanding student and has been offered an appointment to the Military Service Academies of the United States as a member of the Class of 2016.

Thorne, who plays varsity football for the school, will attend the United States Merchant Marine Academy where he will be a linebacker on the football team. Thorne is a Suffolk County Police Youth Academy Cadet. He was also chosen by the

Thorne received a Congressional Nomination from Rep.Tim Bishop following an extensive evaluation process, interview and an evaluation of his academic and extracurricular qualifications. Thorne, along with other recipients, was recently honored by Bishop at a ceremony in Oakdale at the former LaSalle Academy.

Congrats to Michael and the Thorne family, very impressive. Nice to see another Kings Park kid, who started with KPY, excel as a student athlete. Go Kings Park!!
