@Anne, if being a liberal means that I care about our environment then count me in. Likewise, if being a conservative means being a closed minded bigot then I am glad to be excluded from your group.
Anne August 09, 2012 at 02:26 AM
@John, I would welcome oil drilling keeping the jobs and money in the US
Anne August 09, 2012 at 02:36 AM
You clearly fail to see the argument in the correct light!. As a conservative, and NOT a racist or bigot, I cannot see the logic in cleaning up after individuals who do not respect public property, treating it as their personal garbage dump and not giving a hoot! They return to a clean beach and park each weekend. Who do they think picks up their trash? Along with their entry fee they should be given a garbage bag. Perhaps then they would get the message. Leave the parks as you found it!. But again, perhaps those individuals view clean beaches made possible by the labor of others as an entitlement!!

Well john you want to see our faces,I will tell you where not to look welfare lines, destroying our beaches and not cleaning them for people that just don't give a dam about LI or us who live here. You can look for us WORKING AND TAKING CARE OF OUR FAMILY'S &HOMES.
Lady L August 09, 2012 at 03:50 AM
@Anne...I see plenty of over indulged teens tossing trash from their brand new cars in Smithtown, it doesn;t have anything to do with being from the city. The "private" town beaches are just as messy. People are inconsiderate.....no matter what race !

July 4th and July 5th I was at SM to enjoy the beach with family and friends. It was horrifying to witness the filth and abuse of our beach by weekend visitors. I always avoided weekends at Sunken Meadow, but with the heat I felt why should I not go to a beach just 2 minutes from my home and allow these visitors to keep me away. Small signs stated no fires or barbecues but there were hundreds of hammocks hung from the trees, garbage everywhere and barbecues galore with total disregard and disrepect for this beautiful park. Why weren't there any tickets given out? It was a site we'll never forget. The only workers we saw were dealing with the traffic, eventually closing the parkway and diverting the vehicles to exit. Most areas of the beach were without lifeguards with the 10,000 people all forced to huddle in small areas. We returned July 5th thinking it might be better without the unruly crowd but discovered the parking lots, beach and even at the water's edge covered with dirty diapers, broken beer bottles, water bottles and tons of litter and filth everywhere. Then there were many workers dealing with thousands of bags of trash in the parking lots and teens attempting to, but couldn't, clean up insurmountable trash on the beach and by the water's edge. I emailed Senator Flanagan describing the lack of public safety officials to ticket offenders and to control what was a disaster and my email was forwarded to NYS Parks and Recreation! So...no, I won't volunteer!!!

Here's a news flash. NO ONE WANTS TO CLEAN UP AFTER ANYONE ELSE REGARDLESS OF POLITICAL AFFILIATION. you're calling all "liberals" lazy people who don't clean up after themselves and only republicans care enough to clean up after people. The comment and ensuring conversation is so dumb I think my IQ is actually dropping while debating this. Of course you'd be ok with oil drilling even though it destroys the environment you republicans care so much about. This is really ridiculous, if you think only "liberals" make the mess and don't clean it up, I feel bad because nothing is going to change that ignorance
John Gruber August 10, 2012 at 02:02 PM
OF COURSE! How could I forget only republicans like to work and only republicans don't leave messes. The saddest thing is that you people don't even realize how dumb these comments are
GLENN August 10, 2012 at 03:45 PM
Republicans have class. John all your liberal comments are dumb! You are a welfare loving, pathetic liberal......Republicans have class and know the meaning of preserving land.
GLENN August 10, 2012 at 03:49 PM
Don't look for a Mitt loving real American on the welfare....Hey Get my Violin, don't even bother to read JG's comments they are off the wall... bleeding heart liberal. His kind is the reason for the USA decline.
GLENN August 10, 2012 at 03:50 PM
City filth is worse. They act like animals.
GLENN August 10, 2012 at 03:52 PM
Hey KP, You are probably on some form of government assistance...Thank God for unions.....Mitt...work not welfare. Now go clean up the filth that the city animals left for you!
John Gruber August 10, 2012 at 03:57 PM
you just keep showing you have no idea about ANYTHING you talk about, I despise both parties equally. The only pathetic thing here is You blaming an entire group of people and then attack the people who disagree with you after they prove you wrong. so everyone from the city is trash? only republicans care about they environment as they drill for oil? Everytime you post it's something that's even more warped than before and you prove me right every time with your ignorant, biased, attacking comments. If you say some of the stuff you post out loud you'll realize how dumb they sound
John Gruber August 10, 2012 at 04:07 PM
bleeding heart liberal? I defended Bush in a previous blog. But I know logic doesn't mean jack to you. You're comments resemble nothing short of biased, ignorant, hateful messages and I love proving ignorant people like you wrong
John Gruber August 10, 2012 at 04:09 PM
people like you who think they have all the answers are the ones who are really clueless
John Gruber August 10, 2012 at 04:17 PM
so now people who live in the city are filthy animals? I don't know why you're so hateful and ignorant but you should really consider taking a course on tolerance and anti-bigotry
Lady L August 10, 2012 at 07:13 PM
I do not see the connection between political views and a dirty beach....I do however see a connection between daily visitors and no sense of community responsibility. What do they care if they leave their garbage , they will not be back to see it again...it is shameful.
John Gruber August 10, 2012 at 07:32 PM
unless your schizophrenic you shouldn't be able to make that connection between political views and a dirty beach because it doesn't exist. It's just a matter of people not cleaning up after themselves, pure and simple
Get my violin August 10, 2012 at 11:58 PM
Let's get a really big word to show my intelligence, wow I'm impressed. Just go to the beach on the weekend for yourself and see the type of people that are trashing it then honestly tell me that they are nice hard working folk not on any kind of government assistance. Oh please
John Gruber August 11, 2012 at 01:05 AM
you must be have the same hallucination. Again, the level of bigotry and ignorance displayed here is appalling
Get my violin August 11, 2012 at 01:15 AM
I'm glad to see the government thinks like you, that's why welfare is at the highest ever and over 49% of the country do not pay taxes. Glad to see your thinking has things in check,GOOD WORK
John Gruber August 11, 2012 at 01:24 AM
you have no idea what my political views are. Just because I say EVERYONE makes a mess and whether you do or not has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with a political party. you're just looking to rip on people with different beliefs. Again, bigotry and ignorance.
John Gruber August 11, 2012 at 01:26 AM
yea let me tell you, it took A LOT of class for Gingrich to leave his wife with cancer for another girl. tons of class
Lady L August 11, 2012 at 02:39 AM
John you are a troll.......
John Gruber August 11, 2012 at 12:13 PM
not only was I agreeing with you but I didn't realize we were back in 4th grade in which case, Lady L you're an ogre. see, I can behave immaturely to
Lady L August 11, 2012 at 05:04 PM
I have read many of your replies on this site and seeyou always like to stir the pot. You are an internet troll and should really get a life.
GM August 12, 2012 at 03:01 AM
There is power in this thread (though we could do without the hatin'). A valid question raised here: If we continue to let our elected officials off the hook by getting volunteers to clean up, then what comes next? We are taxed to death and should not need to spend the weekend cleaning the beach. Solution: call your town council person and congressman, and assemblymen on Monday and tell them to do their job. Call the Parks Commissioners office, and Park Police and file a complaint. These actions will help remedy the problem. A few dozen calls goes a long way. Stop barking at each other and do something that will be a step in the right direction. NYS Parks LI Region: Phone: (631) 669-1000/ Sen John Flanagan Phone: 631-361-2154
John Gruber August 12, 2012 at 04:02 AM
First off you clearly know nothing about me, despite how many of my comments you read I usually only comment to try to insert some logic or when I see something I consider to be ignorant or biased because we don't need that anymore of that as it is. you also clearly don't know what "stirring the pot" means because I'm not the one insulting entire ideologies on a blog about beach cleanup and when I see that type of ignorance, I can't help but say something. FYI it's kind of hypocritical to tell someone to get a life while doing the exact same thing as said person
Lady L August 12, 2012 at 05:50 AM
I do not flame people like you do John...you are a troll.
John Gruber August 12, 2012 at 01:26 PM
I'm not sure how I "flame" people, I am however, truly fascinated at some of the wackjobs that post on here and when people just insult entire groups of people and ideologies, something needs to be said. If you notice, I usually don't comment first, so you are dead wrong when you say "stir the pot" and I never insult entire groups of people, in fact I try do to the opposite when people try to stir it with ignorance and bigotry, I try to stir the opposite way as I have very little tolerance for those 2 things. don't like it? be mature and stop reading my comments because you still don't know what you're talking about
