Stony Brook University officials are ramping up security after reports of a robbery and an attempted robbery on campus came in over the course of three days. After releasing an emergency alert about a student who had been robbed Sept. 1 on campus, Stony Brook University officials have now said an attempted robbery was reported Tuesday.
Police are investigating an armed robbery at Deer Park's New York Commercial Bank Thursday afternoon.
Police say a man entered the bank, located at 720 Grand Boulevard at approximately 1:15 p.m., approached a teller, displayed a handgun and passed a note to the employee demanding cash.
The teller complied with the robber's demands and the man fled on foot. He was last seen running southeast through the bank parking lot.
A Northport woman was arrested Thursday after police said she was driving while intoxicated after her passenger was seriously injured in a crash in Centerport early this morning.
According to Suffolk County police, Elizabeth Damilatis was driving a 2011 Volvo SUV westbound on East Main Street when she lost control of her vehicle, which struck a utility pole on the north side of road in front of 375 East Main St. at 3:51 a.m.The passenger in the SUV, Thomas Martin, 36, of Huntington, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
