Smithtown To Pay $319K More to Town Employees in 2013

As Smithtown elected officials are dipping into reserve funds to prevent a tax spike, several town employees are receiving salaries raises in the five-digit range.

Residents turn out to oppose St. Johnland Nursing Center's proposal to build a 199 unit retirement complex on a 50-acre wooded parcel on Sunken Meadow Road.

Update: John Pappias Receives Prison Sentence

John Pappias, the Northport man who pleaded guilty to a felony hit and run charge in October that killed a Fort Salonga man, was sentenced to 2 to 6 years in prison Wednesday morning, according to Newsday.

School District Offers Parents Letter to Use for Cancelled Vacation Plans

Officials for the Kings Park school district have posted a letter on the district's website to assist in explaining cancelled vacation plans to airlines and hotels who may charge fees or refuse refunds for plans made for the cancelled February break.
