Update: Power Restoration Continues in Kings Park

LIPA says 73 percent of those who lost power in Kings Park have been restored.

According to the Long Island Power Authority’s most recent estimate, 1,475 residents are still without power in Kings Park while a total of 4,089 have been restored.

As of Thursday morning, LIPA estimates a total of 424,000 customers on Long Island have had their power restored but about 99,000 outages still remain. They estimate that 90 percent of those outages will be restored by the end of the day on Friday.

Cheryl Caniano, who lives on 8th Avenue in Kings Park, said she was told by LIPA that she could expect power on Friday.

“My whole neighborhood got their power back on Monday afternoon, except me," says Caniano whose power line to her home came down in the storm and is on her neighbor's driveway.

Caniano says she is hoping she can salvage the holiday weekend.

Much of neighboring Fort Salonga was in the dark on Wednesday, but things were looking brighter Thursday. Out of the 3,813 who are served there, 825 are still without power and 808 have been restored.
