Public Hearing Set For Santilli Soccer Fields

Town Board to hold hearing April 19

A public hearing will be held next month on a proposal to develop 44.5 acres of land, known to many as the Santilli sand mines, into a sports complex and soccer fields.

Santilli Commercial Developers, owners of the property, plan to install a 16,000 square foot sports facility, four soccer fields and two dedicated ball fields.

Developers met with some opposition at the February meeting including Read Smith, zoning committee chairperson for the KPCA who called the plan “misconceived and dangerous”.

Still others think there is a need for the fields. Santilli estimated at the meeting that it would be at least a year before development on the property would begin.
