PHOTOS: Summer Scenes From Sunken Meadow Beach

Sizzling temps push folks to the water.

Tuesday's heat had folks heading to the water as a heat advisory warned that temps combined with the humidity will make it feel like it is 100 degrees.

According to officials at Sunken Meadow State Park attendance at about 4 p.m. was between 8,000-10000 visitors. That number was expected to climb a bit more when the park becomes free to visitors after 4 p.m.

The water provided the only refuge for most.

Kathy and Mike Novellino of East Northport were enjoying the warm weather.

“Its beautiful. I just dozed off, with the breeze it is very nice,” she said. "We have been in the ocean twice. It is clean and refreshing.”

Those working in the concession stand had only a fan to provide some relief. Danielle Adoinato, a student at Suffolk County Community College has been working the concession stand at the beach for the past four summers.

“I drink lots of water to stay cool,” she said.

A few lifeguards hanging out by the lifeguard hut didn’t appear to mind the heat at all. Tan and fit they seemed to defy the heat. Before they finished their break, they smiled for a picture.
