Military Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Miller Place
A military helicopter made an emergency landing in a Miller Place sod farm on Wednesday, according to Suffolk Police and the FAA.
Suffolk County Police received a call around 2 p.m. about a possible military helicopter landing in the DeLea Sod Farm on Route 25A in Miller Place.
A Stony Brook University student was sent to the hospital after being hit by a university police car en route to a 911 call Thursday night, campus officials confirmed on Friday morning. Robert J. Lenahan, chief of police and assistant vice president for campus safety at SBU, said in a statement that shortly after 10 p.m., eyewitnesses reported that a campus police officer was driving on Circle Road, west of Engineering Drive, with its emergency lights activated when the officer struck a sidewalk and veered in the opposite direction, causing the vehicle to hit the student.

Smithtown Schools Reveal 'Tier One' of Deficit Reduction Plan
The Smithtown Central School District presented "Tier One" of its proposal to eliminate the $4.1 million deficit its facing for the 2013-14 school year during Tuesday night's first budget hearing.
