Five Ways to Enjoy The Snowy Day

Why fight it? Here are some thoughts and ideas about snow days.

The weather outside was frightful, unless of course you are a kid or at least a kid at heart. Hopefully you found a little time for a snowball fight, some sledding or reading by the fire. Here are five ways to enjoy Mother Nature’s forced day off.

1.     Go sledding. The entrance to Nissequogue River State Park off 25A is a pretty popular place to go. Dress in your best snow clothes, but are you including a helmet in your outfit? Some kids are. Are you requiring your kids to wear helmets? Let us know.

2.     Build a snowman, snow fort or wallop your little brother of sister with a snowball when mom isn’t looking.

Anne Carlin of Kings Park says she loves having the kids play outside in the snow, even with the messy house it can sometimes create.

“They bring those snow covered pants into the house and now I have a snow covered floor. But the smiles on their faces do make me almost as happy as they are,” she said.

3.     Sleep late. Need we say more?

4.     Sit by the fire and catch up on some reading or napping. It’s OK, remember, you have the day off courtesy of a higher power.

5.     All of the above. I think local mom Julie Linger sums it up best.

"Sleep late for sure; hot breakfast, fire in the fireplace, soft music, candles, some baking, and the kids will go sledding down the hill on our property. Bring on the snow… "

Indeed.
