Week in Review: Kings Park Couple Arrested After New Orleans Shooting

Raises For Kings Park School Adminstrators
Raises, included in the 2013-14 school budget, were officially approved at the Tuesday evening Kings Park Board of Education meeting.

The 1.75 percent increases are for district administrators and central office employees and were approved in a 3-1 vote. Trustee Diane Nally voted against the the motion and Vice President Liz Barrett was not present.


Police: Kings Park Couple Arrested After New Orleans Shooting

New Orleans police arrested a couple from Kings Park on Tuesday after they say the pair was involved in a shooting at a hotel in New Orleans.

Friends of the pair circulated a flyer in Kings Park last week stating the couple was missing and that they believed the two had fled to North Carolina.

According to the Times-Picayune, Kevin Cahill, 29 of Kings Park, tried to kill a 49-year-old Florida man in a hotel room in the Wyndham Garden Plaza Hotel in the Central Business District and also accidentally shot his girlfriend, Sara Mott, 27, of Kings Park, in the foot at about 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Hair Heaven at Newly Opened Blowout 22

Entering Blowout 22, which opened Tuesday at 116 Main St. in Kings Park, is like walking into a little piece of hair heaven.

The chic, modern salon is a local version of Manhattan’s popular dry bars, in which customers come in for a wash and styled blowout, except that at $25, Blowout 22 is much more affordable than the city’s salons, which charge about $40.

Empty Shopping Center Leaves Void on Main St.
Drivers have no problem finding a parking space at Subway on Kings Park's Main Street. That's because it's the only business still open in the shopping strip at the intersection of Renwick Avenue.

American Beauty Florist closed in 2011, followed by Tormented Souls tattoo parlor in 2012. Next was Chick's Cleaners, which closed this year, having its last pick-up March 31. Now, just Subway is left.

Soldiers on the Sound Reels in Big Fish and Fun

More than 100 men and women from various branches of the military went out on 47 boats for a day of friendly competition and camaraderie for the fifth annual Soldiers on the Sound fishing tournament.

Kings Park resident and Soldiers on the Sound Ltd. President Mark Garry began this event five years ago as a way to give back to those who serve our country.
