#71-Turkey Trot At Nissequogue River State Park

Run, walk, gobble, gobble.

If you are preparing to stuff yourself like a turkey on Thanksgiving Day, you may want to trot like one first. The 4th Annual 5K Run/Walk for the Park, also known as the Turkey Trot begins Thanksgiving morning.

The race takes runners and walkers through the park’s scenic hike and bike trail with Tom the Turkey kicking off the event.  This year the course will also include the The course is challenging, with inclines and declines on the roadway in front of the park’s administration building.

“It’s a beautiful course and a healthy beginning to the Thanksgiving Day holiday,” said NRSP Foundation Chairman, Mike Rosato.  

There is also a 1K Turkey Trot for the kids that starts at 8:30 a.m. According to Rosato the event has drawn almost 200 participants in the past two years.

Registration for the race is $20 for those who pre-register and $25 on the day of the race. All proceeds from the event are used to help enhance and beautify the park. Registration can be done online or through the mail. Complimentary t-shirt and gift for those who pre-register. Cash prizes for winners.

When: Thursday, Nov. 24 (Thanksgiving Day)

Where: Nissequogue River State Park Administration Building

Time: 8:30 a.m. Turkey Trot for Kids
         9:00a.m.  5K Run/Walk n the Park

Check in: 7:00-8:30 a.m. Early Check-In Nov. 23, 4-7p.m. Knights of Columbus Hall, Kings Park.
