Stretch Out on the Snow at Sunken Meadow Beach

Record-low temperatures and wind chills make even the local beach a bone-chilling scene.

Record-low temperatures and gusting cold winds have made it near impossible to dream of summer while walking along Sunken Meadow Beach's boardwalk.

Snow and ice mound over the sand at Sunken Meadow Beach, sending chills up our spines rather than dreams of warmer summer days to come.

As of noon on Tuesday, high temperature of the day is 10 degrees. Yes, 10 degrees with wind chill making it feel closer to -8 degrees, according to the National Weather Center.  It's not expected to climb much higher.

Forecasters have issued a Wind Chill Advisory for winds expected to make temperatures feel from -10 to -20 degrees below zero through 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Temperatures aren't expected to reach above freezing until Thursday, so you might want to put off a walk on the boardwalk for a few days. Maybe rent a movie instead.

For now, stay indoors and enjoy the photos we took before frantically racing back to the car. And if you must go outside, here is a Patch list of safety tips.
