Racers Hit Sunken Meadow for Summer Run

Monday's temps proved a challenge, but no match for the more than 2,000 runners that turned out for the second race of the Summer Run Series.

Monday's sweltering temps didn't deter the 2,024 runners from hitting the pavement at Sunken Meadow State Park for the second race in New York State Park's Summer Run Series.

The 10K run is the most difficult of the series bringing runners through the trails of the park and up the infamous cardiac hill. This year's course was slightly altered due to a dam breech that happened after Hurricane Sandy.

Runners rejoiced at the finish line with cold beverages, snacks and a celebratory beer from the beer truck.

The popular, eight-week running series offers island-wide competition, prizes, snacks and drinks and a hero party for the final run. The series began June 17 and brings out runners from all over the Island.

Registration for this summer's series is full and has closed out.
