Patch Picks: St. Patrick's Day

Our weekly guide of things to do and places to go in Kings Park. This week, we highlight things to do on March 17.

St. Patrick's Day honors St. Patrick, a patron saint of Ireland. But it's also a great reason to have a fun day, and there's no shortage of events to make that happen.

Rule No. 1 for finding an Irish bar: If it has an Irish last name in the title, it's good to go. Shanahan's will be serving up staple corned beef and cabbage, a selection of Irish beers, and live entertainment courtesy of step-dancers.

A Bit Of Blarney
Bring the kiddies down to for a half-hour of free St. Patrick's Day-themed activities, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Best of all, there will still be time to go out afterwards.

Start your St. Patrick's Day at Main Street Pub and it might end there too. Beer specials start at noon, featuring $3 pints and bottles, and the bar will be serving shepherd's pie and, of course, corned beef and cabbage.

St. Paddy's Day is for celebration, but it can also be for a good cause. This fundraiser, held at Cielo, aims to raise money for The Dina McGowan Memorial Foundation and Life's Worc. The $50 admission goes straight to the organizations and gets you four hours of open bar, raffles, and an Italian/Irish buffet. The benefit starts at 5 p.m.

The Kings Park St. Patrick's Day parade didn't have an official after party, but odds are if you went, you wound up at Celtic Crossing Tavern. The quintessential Irish pub, they'll be serving up hot corned beef and cabbage to the masses.
