Event Spotlight: Proactive Parenting Evening

Local anti-drug task force will host presentation for parents to learn about the dangers of underage drinking, over the counter drugs and energy drinks.

 

Local anti-drug task force, Kings Park in the Know, along with the Kings Park School Distirct will host an evening for parents, featuring Dr. Stephen Dewey of the Feinstein Institute, to learn about the dangers of underage drinking, over the counter drugs and energy drinks. 

Key points of the evening will highlight how drugs and alcohol affect the developing adolescent brain and adult brain, a discussion of addictive drugs and an explanation to parents in how to handle and guide their children through these years.

Following Dr. Dewey’s presentation,Steve Chassman, Clinical Director of LICADD, Long Island Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependency will discuss the OASAS Youth Survey results released last August. 

“Few of us would think of missing one of our kids sporting events or a musical concerts but so few take the time to get educated about one of the most critical aspects of their child’s life, if you come out one night this year for your kids, make it this night,” said KPITK President, Maureen Rossi in a statement.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kings Park High School.
