From books to bands, Thursday offers up fun.

Good morning Kings Park.

There’s a lot happening in and around the hamlet today. Check out these five things you should know today.

1.  Calling all Moms and Dads of school age children. Today is the last chance forprovided by the Kings Park School District for the 2011-2012 school year. They’re good for fall, winter and spring seasons.

2.  Children grades K through 2 are invited to escape the witch's tower and go on tour with Green Golly as she uncovers the "treasure of light" at the , Nesconset branch, this morning 11 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.

3.  For those with preschoolers, in Fort Salonga is having an open house from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a fun pet performance by Rick Caran and his talented trio of pups. Caran will also be doing a reading and signing of his new children's book, Jilli Dog, The Little Dog That Made Mr. Kranby Smile.

4.  If music is your passion, sit back and enjoy the sounds of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s with top nostalgia band, Part of the 2011 Family Summer Concert Series, the concert starts at 8 p.m. at the Branch Shopping Plaza on E. Main Street, Smithtown.

5.  Check back at 5 p.m. to see who’s spotlighted today in The Faces of Kings Park series. We’ll give you a little hint; he’s a real fan of books.
