Youth Group's Donations Help Build New Softball Dugouts

Kings Park girls varsity softball fields gets two new dugouts thanks to a $3,000 donation.

Kings Park's girl softball players will have a safe place to sit while awaiting their turn at bat this upcoming spring.

Kings Park Youth Athletic Association donated $3,000 and their own time to help turn two concrete slabs on the girl's softball field into dugouts for the 2014 season, Newday reports.

The youth athletic association pitched in by helping put up wooden roofs over the concrete slabs, install benches and put up fencing.

"Our baseball field butts up against our softball field, so when the teams were both playing you’d have balls flying,” said association treasurer Glenn Chiuchiolo told Newday. “The kids were getting hit. We needed to keep them out of the sun and rain and protect them."
