Kings Park Grad Slices into Golfing Market

Kings Park alum, Mark Reda develops golfing aid with college classmate taking his love of golf and launching it into a business.

If your golf swing is a little rusty, Marc Reda may have the perfect remedy to get you back on track.

The 2005, Kings Park alum, along with a college classmate, took an idea and a love for the game of golf and made it into a thriving business. Essentially a golf ball on a bungee rope, Rope It is a portable and compact way for golfers to perfect their swing in a safe and pretty small space.

According to Reda, all you need is about 20 yards of space. The idea was actually something that his classmate’s dad invented, but the two saw it as something that could be sold.
Golfers just need to tie Rope It to a five-pound weighted object, allow for proper space and swing away with an iron.

“We started making them in my basement,” said Reda. “Fast forward and three years later I am in Africa on a trade mission selling it.”  The company has been in business about four years.

Reda, an avid golfer, was chosen to participate in the trade mission upon his graduation from the University of Delaware. He spent about a month there, traveling with a delegation that included Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware.

“We worked with a management company before we went there, I met with some pro shops and golf course managers,” said Reda. “I had to sell myself, my product and build a rapport.”

To manufacture Rope It, Reda works with a Delaware company that employees disabled people, which Reda said makes him feel good.

“It gives them a chance to earn a living where they might not be able to.”

The 25-year-old entrepreneur recently entered a competition to appear on the television show Shark Tank, which landed the company a lot of exposure, but fell just short of a win.

"We are keeping it moving," said Reda. "New opportunities are developing every day."
