Nissequogue River State Park is located on the north shore of Long Island in Kings Park. A variety of habitatsMore including tidal and fresh water wetlands and hardwood forests provide homes to many types of shore birds, reptiles and amphibians. A section of the park has been designated a State Bird Conservation Area. The Greenbelt Trail, for walking and hiking, parallels the Nissequogue River and provides scenic views of the river and the Long Island Sound from the top of the bluffs. The Greenbelt Trail parallels the Nissequogue River through the park. The 1.5 mile Kings Park Hike and Bike Trail runs along the former railroad spur on the south side of the park. The trail currently runs from Old Dock Road (Behind St. Joseph's Church) to St. Johnland Rd. Walking, running and biking are permitted. The trail contains historic markers as well as park benches for rest. Park roads can also be used for biking, running and walking. The park also has a soccer field, a canoe and kayak launch, fishing, bird watching, interpretive signs, guided tours and group tours by reservation, plus a conference room which can be rented.
