The park area made at Ralph's is nice and we enjoy it in summer but it cut down turning off Main…Read More Street to a parking. Parking is key to a business to thrive

Shame on the property owners at the beginning of the town, on both sides after the Chinese…Read More restaurant heading west. It is SO disrespectful to the homeowners and residents of this town that those buildings look like a slum. The further west you go on Main St. the nicer it is. But those buildings are the introduction to our town and its a disgrace. We spend a lot of money on our homes and paying our taxes in Kings Park and people who come through our town think it looks like trash, and it does. Are those property owners on our Main St. poverty stricken? They can't afford to have some pride in the face of our town?? Then sell the buildings. They should be ashamed.

The currents are a hazard on the ramp during certain parts of the tide cycle. This wasn't an issue…Read More when launching paddle boats off the beach and out of the current was the normal and safe way for handling the current. Then the turf wars started and seemingly at the moment, George may be getting what he wanted all along.
Then again, I've had many people tell me they were in Kings Park renting canoes or kayaks to paddle the river and realized there was a restaurant there that they later patronized. No one ever told me they went to eat at the ODI and realized they could rent canoes and kayaks there. As the ODI begins it's 31st year of operations, I wonder how much the restaurant benefitted from all the free publicity they received from all the people who came to rent paddle boats. That will be gone now.
Maybe Bob and Linda operating out of the state park wll be a good thing. They won't have to deal with the current. Resident/non resident usage rights and parking won't be an issue. It may even raise awareness and revenue for the park. Maybe a concession stand or snack bar like what is at many state and local parks will make business sense and can be opened there. Paddlers can get a drink, some ice cream or food.

I am glad there is a resolution to this situation. I'm sure Linda and her staff are…Read More glad they don'y have to deal with George any more. People in the community were going to miss those trips.

I wonder if kayak/canoe landings on the beach will now be OK if those paddlers want to patronize the…Read More ODI? I also wonder how the relocation of the canoe and kayak liveries to the Nissequogue River State Park will ultimately effect patronage at the restaurant.
I've had many people from out of town tell me they rented canoes and kayaks from the livery services, then realized there was a restaurant at the Kings Park Bluff that they would later eat at. No one ever told me they went to the ODI and realized they could rent canoes and kayaks there. How much free publicity was the ODI getting just by the massive numbers of out of town people coming by to rent a caone or kayak and paddle the river?
I guess time will tell if one event has any effect on the other. Regardless, though, you still have to give kudos to George and Janet for their upcoming 31 years in business. Previous establishments at their location never seemed to be around long.

I went there yesterday...great service and help.
It also gives our teens a place to work...thanks to…Read More the two young seniors from our town who loaded my car.
I would rather shop local and get a product that is fresh than home depot where who knows..

Thanks for opening!

Instead of being reactive and pointing fingers at people who aren't doing anything to improve KP,…Read More maybe those of us who care can be proactive and find small ways to help improve Main Street! Little improvements could happen right now such as shopkeepers cleaning their windows (inside and out), spot paint depressing, dull areas around their shops, maybe we could get planters and put them between shops with some hearty low maintenance flowers. These little changes can help improve what we DO have. We chip in to clean the beaches, why not Main Street. It's a huge part of KP and a little pride and elbow grease will go a long way.

The lady who did the sewing and alterations was the best part of the establishment and the only…Read More reason I went to Chicks. She will be missed. Would anyone know her name, contact number or somewhere else she might be working? Thanks. King

Yet another discussion on Kings Park Main street. Its run down and there is no parking. Why would…Read More I go there if I could go to a clean cheap store like Target with EASY convenient parking. Before someone says...there is parking--NO there is no convenient parking- if you park on Main street you risk your LIVE getting in and out of your car with on coming traffic. No one wants to say it or admit it but most of the building on main street needs to be taken down and re built at last 50 feet back to allow for EASY CONVENIENT parking. Main Street was built around the fact that Kings Park WAS a walking town...between the residents and the workers in the hospital would WALK into town. WAKE UP the hospital as been gone for near 20 years The only people walking to go shopping are the ones living in the SROs that don't have money or cars. Time to fix the town. Any one know why Century 21 moved?

Absolutely - the inspection report should be in the window so the public can see the report at all…Read More times, especially BEFORE they enter the store and know what they are getting into. This is public record and should be displayed. Also as the city establishments have the letter system - anyone displaying A or B you know has passed.
