MLK School's Closed Camp at Abrakadoodle!

Celebrate Martin Luther King Day at Abrakadoodle's School's Closed Camp. Inspired by African American artists and the great man himself, we'll create amazing artwork!  We will listen to music, read, use different techniques and media and have a lot of fun. Monday, January 20, 1:00 - 3:30 p.m. $45 (additional children $35 each) Ages 4 & up (must be potty trained).  24-hour advanced registration required.  Camp held at the Abrakadoodle Art Room, 367A Lake Avenue, St. James.

‘Ready Or Not’

South Shore Theatre Experience in West Islip will present “Ready or Not” by playwright in residence Christopher Hackert . The show runs January 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 2014 at 8pm. Tickets are $15.

Music & Silent Film

What role did the town of Sayville have in Silent Film? You may find yourself quite surprised! Stop in at the library, on Greene Avenue, on Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m. for a presentation by J.K. Hodge who’ll give a lecture on the history of Silent Film and perform live to one of Buster Keaton's famous films!

Jimmy B. Scholarship Event

Come support the Jimmy B. Scholarship effort and have fun at the same time. It's happening at Cavanaugh's in Blue Point on Sat. Jan. 18 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. This scholarship was created in honor of Jim Bianco of Bayport who lost his battle with cancer this year. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a male and female athlete Bayport HS senior.

A Psychic Night in West Sayville

Join the Suffolk County VFA Ladies Auxiliary on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 7 p.m. to see and listen to Jimmy Wands, host of WALK 97.5 FM's "Psychic Sundays". The evening will be followed by a book signing. Gathering to celebrate and raise money for a woman fighting leukemia that is determined to beat it holistically. Event is taking place at Brick House Brewery, 67 W. Main St. in Patchogue, Friday at 7 p.m. Event is a $10 donation/cover, will have bands both upstairs and downstairs and face painting.

Comedy Night

The Plaza Cinema and Media Arts Center hosts its monthly comedy showcase at Shand’s Loft in Brick House Brewery, 67 W. Main St. in Patchogue, Sunday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12.

Miller Place - Rocky Point

Hip and Knee Replacement Breakfast Seminar

The Total Joint Replacement Program at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital will offer a free informational breakfast seminar on Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at the Hospital. Orthopedic surgeons will discuss the different conditions that lead to joint deterioration and pain, and the surgical options available for hip and knee replacement. Pre- and post-operative care, rehabilitation, insurance and other related topics will be covered by Mather Hospital representatives. A question and answer period will follow. North Shore Montessori School Open House

North Shore Montessori School (NSMS) is hosting an Open House where members of the community can visit the school and meet the Head of School, Meg Sheehan; talk to teachers; plus tour the classrooms and see the facilities.  Programs include:  Mommy & Me, Stepping Stones, Children’s House, Kindergarten, as well as Specialized Programs before and after school with additional instruction and activities, such as yoga, baking, karate, science, theater, Spanish, gardening, and dance.

Tai-chi Workshop

Every month, the Long Island School of Tai-chi-Chuan holds a workshop to introduce people to the slow, relaxing movements of Tai-chi.  We explore the principles of how to regain a flexible, coordinated, healthy, athletic body and to let go of physical and emotional stress. Basketball Free Throw Championship

All boys and girls ages 9 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The local competition will be held Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. in the Infant Jesus RC Parish Center, 110 Myrtle Ave, Port Jefferson. The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, by Council 1992 locally, with the support of the Brooklyn Nets.

Color Chromatography at the Maritime Explorium

Co-Ed Roller Derby Fundraiser to benefit Lenny Crawford

Strong Island Derby Revolution will skate outside their comfort zone to kick it old school with the men and women of Man's Ruin Roller Derby of Chester, NY in a CoEd exhibition bout to benefit Lenny Crawford of Smithtown.
