More Than 9 Inches of Snow in Kings Park, Frigid Temps Linger

Total snowfall likely higher as forecasters wait for updated reports on Wednesday morning.

Kings Park residents woke up to more than 9 inches of snow on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Center, and that total is expected to increase.

A trained spotter for the National Weather Service measured 9 inches in East Northport as of 11 p.m. Tuesday. There is not yet an updated total snowfall posted as of Wednesday morning.

Nearby areas of Hauppauge had reported 13 inches of snow as of 7 a.m. Wednesday, with areas of North Babylon and Selden reporting up to 14.5 inches.

Frigid temps will continue through Thursday, according to Tim Morrin, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office at Upton.

On Wednesday morning, temperatures hovered around seven degrees, with a wind chill index of minus 14. Highs on Wednesday are expected to reach 15 degrees and Wednesday night, expecting a low of one degree above zero with wind chill values as low as minus 11.

Thursday will dawn partly sunny with a two-out-of-ten chance of a snow shower in the afternoon, Morrin said. The high on Thursday will only reach 20 degrees, with wind chills as low as minus 11.

Frosty temperatures will blanket all of Long Island and New York City equally, according to the NWS. "It's an equal opportunity air mass," Morrin said.
