Flood Watch In Effect, Up to 4 Inches of Rain Expected

A flood watch is in effect for the area Thursday into Friday.

Forget about the outdoor barbecue on Thursday -- soggy skies are expected to dump up to four inches of rain in Kings Park through Friday.

According to Michael Silva, meteorologist for the National Weather Service office at Upton, a "pretty strong" low pressure system is moving into the mid-Atlantic States that will pass south and east of Long Island Thursday night.

Showers are expected to begin on the East End in late morning and to develop throughout Thursday.

"We could see some heavy rain along with thunderstorms and gusty winds from 40 to 50 miles per hour," Silva said.

A flood watch is in effect for the Kings Park area through Friday night -- with between two -and-a-half and three inches of rain expected -- and up to four inches possible locally.

Temperatures will remain in the 60s on both Thursday and Friday, Silva said.

Showers are expected to linger though Friday afternoon; the rain is expected to clear out of the area by Friday night, with Saturday dawning bright and sunny, with temps in the 70s -- just in time for the weekend.
