Local Groups Stand Up to Shatter Bullying

Kings Park in the Know and the KP Civic Association join hands to stand up against bullying.

Anti-drug group, Kings Park in the Know and the Kings Park Civic Association are teaming and taking a stand, literally, against bullying.

The groups are hoping to rally residents to a fundraising event, Stand Up Against Bullying, being held at the high school on May 10 and break two World Records. Their first attempt will be to bust the world record for the number of people to stand up together, from a sitting position, with arms linked.

According to organizer, Anne Carlin, the current record is 45 people. “The kids have been practicing in gym class,” said Carlin at a recent board of education meeting.

The second record is to make the world’s largest peace sign using glow sticks. The groups will be handing out the sticks to attendees who will then head to a designated spot.

Kids can also have some simple fun in a yo-yo contest and see who can yo-yo the longest or try the old classic, “walking the dog”.

Registration is $5 per person and will be held rain or shine, beginning at 7 p.m. on May 10 at the Kings Park High School track.
