Varsity Scoreboard: Taylor Throws Two No-Nos

Back-to-back perfect games have softball off to hot start, baseball sitting at 4-0

The 2011 spring season is in full swing in Kings Park, with most teams playing multiple games. Let's take a look at how the Kingsmen fared in the early part of the spring season:

Baseball: The Kings Park baseball team has jumped out to an impressive 4-0 start in 2011, thanks to some timely hitting and dominant performances on the mound. Since opening the season with a 7-5 victory over Riverhead, the Kingsmen allowed just two earned runs in their next three games, all victories. Nick Venier has compiled 15 strikeouts in 12 innings pitched and has led the team at the plate with a home run and 10 RBI.

They've also gotten a strong outing from Joe Guercio, who yielded only three hits in a 9-2 victory over Huntington. Guercio struck out 12 in seven innings of work.

Softball: The Lady Kingsmen are off to another strong start, despite being throttled in their season opener against Deer Park, 16-1. They've managed to bounce back in large part thanks to Lindsey Taylor. Taylor threw her 10th no-hitter of her high school career on Monday, a perfect game, in a 12-0 victory over Harborfields. She struck out 14.

She followed up that performance by striking out 18 of 21 batters she faced in her second consecutive perfect game, a 5-0 victory over Huntington on Wednesday.

Boys Lacrosse: The Kingsmen have split their first two games in League II play in 2011, most recently falling to Hauppauge 10-3 on Tuesday. Prior to that, they got a pair of goals each from Ryan Kearns, Tom Miele and Chris Ciuffo to edge out Deer Park, 8-6.

Girls Lacrosse: The girls lacrosse team has begun the season with two blowout victories over Deer Park, 9-1, and Center Moriches, 10-2. Natalie Silvers leads the team with six goals in the two contests. Amanda Reichardt has been a rock in goal thus far as well, stopping nine shots in the two games.
