Varsity Scoreboard: Boys Basketball Wins on Buzzer-Beater, Hockey Prepares For Playoffs

A look at varsity games in Kings Park from January 30 to February 4.

Varsity Hockey: The Kings Park/Commack hockey team had trouble hanging onto second place as the regular season wound down. The team finished fourth overall and will face defending champion Middle Country, the fifth seed, in the quarterfinals Wednesday night at 9:00 at The Rinx in Hauppauge.

Boys Basketball: The Kingsmen went 1-1 in two thrilling games this past week, first defeating Sayville in overtime on Shane O'Leary's buzzer-beating three pointer, 62-59 on Thursday but a comeback attempt then fell short Friday, as they lost 50-46 to Miller Place. Nick Borkowski led the Kingsmen in scoring in both contests. At 5-4 in the conference and 10-6 overall, they currently sit third in League V with just two games to play.

Girls Basketball: The Lady Kingsmen enjoyed a pair of convincing victories this week that put them back atop the standings in League V. First, on Thursday they dispatched Sayville 49-30 and followed that up with a 61-50 win over Miller Place. Marion Kawecki has been solid for the Lady Kingsmen, leading the team in scoring in both games, averaging 14 points/game this season.
