Cross-country runner Shannon Ahern has been running only since the eighth grade, but already she is a star and Saturday she will compete in the New York State Federation Championship Meet being held at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.
While many teens may have spent their summer sleeping late and hanging out by the pool, Ahern had sneakers on by 6:15 a.m. ready to pound the pavement. It is something she says she loves.
“Everything is great. The team is awesome and full of nice people,” says Ahern who as a sophomore runs with the varsity team.
Ahern is a top runner, but even she thinks this weekend’s competition will be tough.
“I don’t think I will make it (as a top runner) in this weekend's meet. I will take it as it comes, I haven’t gotten that far yet,” she said.
