Sports Flash: Seawolves, Patriots Pick Up Football Wins

Stony Brook 41, Gardner-Webb 10: The Seawolves combined for 13 tackles for loss – including nine tackles from Grant Nakwaasah, and six sacks  – to lead the defense. On the offensive side, Miguel Maysonet finished the game with 244 yards and two touchdowns, including a 75-yard kick return that gave the Seawolves a 20-3 lead in the third quarter, and Wesley Skiffington kicked a career-best 48-yard field goal. Stony Brook now has a five-game winning streak and a 7-1 overall record (3-0 in Big South play).

Ward Melville 41, Patchogue-Medford 36: According to MSG Varsity, "In a game where 78 combined points were scored, it was Ward Melville’s defense that secured the victory in the end." The Patriots forced four incomplete passes for Patchogue-Medford in the final two minutes of the game to seal the win. On offense, three players racked up more than 100 yards each: Brendan Hegarty had 21 carries for 162 yards and a touchdown, Jake Biro tallied 15 carries for 155 yards and two touchdowns, and Brendan Dooley totaled four carries for 103 yards and two touchdowns. The Patriots are now 5-2 on the season.

Mercy 27, Stony Brook School 14: Marco Masakayan threw an 8-yard scoring pass and Don Liotine scored on a 5-yard run to score the Bears' only points in the game during the fourth quarter. Stony Brook is now 5-2 on the season.
