Girls Volleyball Plays for Suffolk Championship on Wednesday

Kings Park varsity volleyball looks to clinch third Class A title, advance to LI Championship.

Kings Park girls volleyball will compete in their third Suffolk County championship on Wednesday, with their sights set on a Long Island title.

The Kingsmen varsity girls volleyball team swept the No. 5-seeded Eastport-South Manor, 3 matches to 0, on Monday. The victory puts Kings Park into the Suffolk County Finals.

The team posted a congratulatory message on its Facebook page, "A sweep of Eastport tonight means we advance to the Suffolk County Final!!!! Great job by all tonight and thank you to our fans!!"

Kings Park is ranked No. 1 in the Suffolk's Class A championship game and are a forced to be reckoned with. The Kingsmen were undefeated in 12-0 in League V play, not a surprise given they have not dropped a match since Oct. 11, 2011.

Head Coach Lizz Rakita said the team's strength and continued success, undefeated since Oct. 11, 2011, is in large part thanks to its experienced lineup.

"With two county and Long Island championships under our belt, these girls are hungry to get a third and bring home a state title. Half of these girls have all been in the team for our first two championships and are ready to get the third," Rakita said.

The Suffolk County Class A finals will be played at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Bayshore. Admission to the game is $6.

The teams has requested all attending fans to wear black.
