Girls Volleyball Fight Hard, Comes In Third in State Championship

Lady Kingsmen come home with third place in New York State's Class A.

The Lady Kingsman girls volleyball fought hard to achieve their goal of winning the state championship this weekend, but came up short on Saturday.

Kings Park varsity girls volleyball team won third place in New York State's Class A championship round-robin held Saturday in Glen Falls Civic Center, Newsday reports. It is the third consecutive year Kings Park has taken third place.

"[The team has won] three Suffolk County and Long Island championships which is tough to do in itself," coach Liz Manly told Newsday. "We still have so much to be proud of."

The Lady Kingsmen started off slowly, losing its first match in the round-robin style tournament to Pittsford. The team then rallied back to beat Pittsford in a match, before falling in the third set.

Pittsford ended its pool play with a 6-0 record and went on to play against defending champion Burnt Hills in the Class A final on Sunday.

Leading the Kings Park team were its captains Kendall Corcoran, Joelle Goldstein and Amanda Gannon.
