On March 10, 2011, Kings Park High School students participated in the 2011 Long Island Youth Summit at Dowling College. To be selected to participate in the Summit, high school students from around Long Island were invited to write a paper/essay, or create a short video or art portfolio that would offer possible solutions to a variety of local suburban issues, including environmental, housing, transportation, economic and education.
Out of the more than 500 students, in over 30 Long Island high schools, 200 students were chosen as finalists to participate in the Summit, including 31 talented Kings Park High School students.
Each participating student received a $500 scholarship as recognition for being selected. Three Kings Park students, Eddie Greco, Amelia Morales, and Stephanie Castlen each won a grand prize scholarship in the amount of $2,000 for ideas they proposed at the Summit.
Congratulations to all participating Kings Park High School students, the future problem-solvers of Long Island.
