A Meet the Candidates night will be held on May 9 at the high school.

Board of Education elections, as well as the school budget vote will be held May 15.

The current board has done a fantastic job! Be careful who you vote for. One of the candidates may have an agenda - her son is a teacher who may have had a run in with the superintendent... We need board members that have the best interest of all of the students 1st! No.1 priority is educating the kids, everything else is secondary. Will she vote for anything that affects her family personally?? make sure to ask these questions at the meet the candidates night.......
bbaro April 19, 2012 at 08:01 PM
Thanks for that i will not vote for HER lol...
Pam DeFord April 19, 2012 at 09:54 PM
I believe the 3 candidates running for the board ALL have an interest in our school district. I also know that ALL 3 candidates are related to teachers. What is so bad about that?? I think it happens to be a good thing. I have a question for "Anonymous". Why does it matter that a candidate running for the board has a son who is a teacher? Are you fearful she may win? How do you know she is not running with her top priority being our children? For an anonymous person you have alot to say about someone's character. Why are you anonymous?
John J. Gallagher April 19, 2012 at 10:16 PM
Once again,,,,ANONYMITY......the word itself offers little CREDIBILITY......why do some of us feel giving our name may hurt us ? .
KPLifer April 20, 2012 at 12:35 PM
Pam - her son is a good teacher.....BUT....he lost his prized coaching position due to ta run in with the superintendent......she may have a personal vendetta- she is doing this for her child..... Make sure to ask all the questions about it at the meet the candiate night.
Nick Viscomi April 20, 2012 at 01:39 PM
I feel it is rather presumptuous to assume that said candidate is solely running to help avenge a vendetta for her son. Claims like this are ridiculous to make without evidence and unfair to the candidate. I do not think it is too much to ask to wait until meet the candidate night to find out what each of their positions are until we pass judgement on them.

Anonymous, you seem to have a lot of inside information. Maybe we should mention that she works for St. Joseph's and is a good friend to our local preist and deacon. Maybe her service to our church should be highlighted not an ASSumed agenda. You know what happens when you ASSume.......
Pam DeFord April 20, 2012 at 07:30 PM
Anonymous, Thank you for the information, which I find has no relevance having to do with her running for a board position. I find the information stated from "ILOVEKP" of greater value. However, I do find it interesting "Anonymous" how you side-stepped my questions for you? You seem to be very quick at judging others, why can't the questions I asked of you be answered by yourself as quickly?
bbaro April 22, 2012 at 12:09 PM
This is a democracy we are allowed to speal our minds lets not attack Anonymous. Everyone has the right to speak their mind. Anonymousmade a statement which most people in the community would not have known about. I am sure the question will be asked, this way all cards are on the table. And what does being good friends with our priest and deacon have to do this KPSD.
ILOVEKP April 22, 2012 at 03:05 PM
bbaro--you are right, we're allowed to speak our minds & we are fortunate to live in a democracy. The concerning thing is that anonymous put a statement out there & the next comment was from you stating you won't vote for her. Some would look at a person with heavy ties to the church and a closeness with our clergy as an indication of ones integrity which is why I made that comment. Additionally, her son who had a "run in with the superintendent" & "he is losed his prized coaching position", is currently the coach of the lacrosse team & the run in was in regard to field conditions. Isn't it unfair to pass judgement regarding someones reasons for seeking an elected position before the community has a chance to listen & hear what any of the canidates stand for. Anonymous has clearly passed judgement on one of the canidates & that is her right as a voter but there are many of us who are prepared to ask questions of all three canidates & once we have formed our own opinion based on the facts put before us, not by assuming, will make our opinions & cast our votes accordingly. What in the above comments do you view as an attack? I have read & reread, the only attack I can see on this thread is to one of our candidates & I agree with you, we should not attack on these boards!!!
Nick Viscomi April 22, 2012 at 03:18 PM
bbaro I completely agree with you that this is a democracy and people have the right to speak their minds. However, the statement made is speculation; the only hard fact that was presented was that her son is a teacher in the district. How could any of us know that her main goal is avenging a vendetta for her son? Her work at St. Joseph's camp is relevant and i believe it speaks to her character and pride in the community that she put so much time and effort into that program. Once again i have no problem with freedom of speech but i do not see how mud-slinging candidates and not even attaching a name to the criticism is constructive.

This is why people do not want to be board members - it's like standing in front of a wall and giving townspeople rocks. Leave the candidates alone, or step up to the wall yourself.

Not the wife of a teacher, the mother of a teacher.
KPLifer April 23, 2012 at 02:28 PM
It is important for people to want to be BOE members for the correct reason. Remember to ask many, many questions of all the candidates at the meet the candidate night. When you run for any public office - expect the skeletons to be found, expect the tough questions, expect negative backlash at unpopular decisions. This is not a popularity contest, it is serious business. If a candidate has nothing to hide, it should not be a problem. FYI: Nothing posted above is a secret, it was clearly public information as discussed at previous board of ed meetings. Folks need to remember that is a $75 million dollar organization, not a small local club. Motherway and Weber will be missed! They did a fantastic job the last few years.
Susan Alvar April 23, 2012 at 04:26 PM
I agree that the viewpoints here are purely speculation. No one knows why someone is running for these positions. To say that you "think" someone has an agenda holds no credbility. Ask them. I have known Diane Nally for many years. I think the work she does for this community and their children through the church is admirable. Isn't that what we want from a school board member? Have you asked the previous school board memebers why they ran? Did they have children in the district who they wanted to assure had the best education that could be given them? I would be amazed if they didn't. I do not see this as a negative. But that is my opinion, which I am entitled to as are you to yours.
Pam DeFord April 23, 2012 at 09:57 PM
What I find amazing is that this whole thread was started by an anonymous post! A person who wishes to remain that way must have their own agenda. As a community we should all be thankful that we have people who want to run for a board position. These postings are for community news, not a place for anonymously bash people for who are and what they believe in. Yes, I believe we are all entitled to our own opinions, but the old saying is "If you have nothing nice to say about someone, don't say anything at all." Let's be adults and realize what our responsibility to our kids is. Character Education is taught in our schools perhaps some adults are in need of a refresher course!!! Before you bash others, take an inventory of yourself. Don't we all have faults? So "anonymous" I'm going to take my own advice. Since I have nothing nice to say to you for starting this ridiculous conversation, I won't say anything more to you!!! To the 3 candidates who are running thank you for being brave enough to step forward for our children. Thank you!
bbaro April 24, 2012 at 07:52 AM
Katie could not have said it better. Everything else is irrelevant.everyone has their own agenda lets hear them outa vote accordingly.
KPLifer April 24, 2012 at 12:33 PM
Anonymous never mentioned any names. Thanks to Susan for letting us know who it is! I am writing in my vote for Tricia. She is best suited person in KP for a BOE position.
Pam DeFord April 24, 2012 at 08:37 PM
Anonymous didn't have to mention names. Read the first posting on here. Anonymous referred to the candidate as "her" and "she". With only one woman running it is very easy to figure out who the conversation is about.
ILOVEKP April 24, 2012 at 08:58 PM
Considering anonymous mentioned "she" and there is only one female candidate it would not be hard to figure out who anonymous was trying to have us "wonder" about. Ironically Diane Nally's husband was a teacher in KP, back when times were tight, budgets went down and our district was on austerity. This is not the first time our district hit hard times. If she was in it for her families own advancement wouldn't she have run during those hard times when she was raising young children on a modest income!
sally pruslow May 04, 2012 at 08:46 PM
Sally Pruslow Why pick on Ms. Nally? All three people running for the BOE have educators in their immediate families. Mr. Leo's wife taught in KPSD and now I understand has a education consulting business. His sister presently teaches in KPSD, just like Ms Nally's son. Mr. Kelly's wife is also an educator. What difference does it make. Anyone with an ounce of integrity would recuse themselves from voting on an agenda item that involved there family members (a child presently attending KPSD or a staff member) or a business they own. What we should be concerned about as voters is whether they will listen to the community, and try to have a more open approach with agenda items the community is concerned about such as the dist transportation and extension of the supt. contract. Hopefully, they can bring a consensus between the staff and the administration to raise the morale of the KPSD employees. More important issues for voters to be concerned about are increasing costs of running a school district, trying to keep class sizes lower in the primary grades and providing a balanced curriculum including foreign languages, technology, music and the arts. These are some of the things we need to keep in mind NOT what or if they have a hidden agenda.
