Sound Off: Kings Park Schools Superintendent Agruso to Retire

Educator plans to step down in July.

On Tuesday Night, Kings Park schools Superintendent Susan Agruso told the community she plans to resign in July.

Here is the letter she sent to the board of education:

Earlier this evening I informed the Board of Education of my intention to retire at the end of July. It has been a privilege for me to serve as your superintendent for the last six years.

For the rest of this school year, our focus remains on our students’ academic achievement and the many activities and events at all of our schools. Our goals are to have a successful end to the school year and a smooth transition to the next superintendent.

The board responded with the following statement:

Yesterday evening, Dr. Agruso informed the Board of Education about her decision to retire at the end of July. Over the past six years, Dr. Agruso has shown herself to be a principled leader and someone who always remained true to her convictions, regardless of pressure. We sincerely believe that despite the many challenges our district has faced, we are a stronger and better school district because of her efforts and we thank her for her service to our community and to our kids. The board would like to extend our best wishes to Dr. Agruso on her retirement and we wish her nothing but the best in all her future endeavors.
