School Board Trustee Tom Locascio to Run for Re-Election

Candidates have until 5 p.m. Monday to file a petition to run for the school board.

At least one of two Kings Park Board of Trustee candidates who are up for re-election this June has announced a run for re-election.

Tom Locascio has told Patch that he will be running for his second term. Terms for board trustees Liz Barrett and Tom Locascio, expire on June 30 of this year, leaving two positions open. Both Locascio and Barrett were elected in 2010 and have served three years.
Locascio, who grew up in Dix Hills is married to a life long resident of Kings Park and has a young daughter and child on the way, told Patch he has the position challenging and exciting.

“For the past three years, I've had the privilege of serving as a volunteer, elected school board member in our great town,” said Locascio.

“This position has been challenging, yet incredibly rewarding and I'm proud of the results I've helped deliver on behalf of our students and taxpayers.  I'm very excited to be seeking re-election to the Kings Park Board of Education and hope that this community will again place their trust in me, so I can continue to focus on the many important issues that our district and community continue to face."

As of last week, Barrett told Patch she was still undecided. Names of additional candidates, if others choose to run, will be released by the school district after the deadline expires.

Anyone wishing to file a petition should contact the district's administration office.  Residents can attend a meet the candidates night being held May 2 at 7 p.m. at the high school. The election will be held on May 21.
