Kings Park residents said yes to a $80,832,817 budget by a margin of 67% in favor of the budget.
The approved budget is an increase of 2.49 percent over last year's budget. The 2012-2013 budget cuts include 4.7 teaching positions and several non-teaching positions including a mechanic, two custodians, five aides, and one maintenance position.The consolidation of bus routes will result in the loss of four bus drivers, three of who are retiring.
Turnout was light, but steady at the polls with a total of 2,725 residents voting. 1840 voted yes and 885 no.
The tax rate applied to homeowners is anticipated to be an increase of 2.49 percent. Kings Park residents can, on average, expect to see about a $186.17 increase for the year on their tax bill, or about $15.51 monthly.
"Turnout was small but there was an overwhelming support of the budget, said District Superintendent Susan Agruso. "This indicated we created a good balance between students needs and taxpayers expectations."
Diane Nally and Charlie Leo will replace outgoing truestee Steve Weber and president Bill Motherway as members of the board of education.
Leo said he was "very happy with the outcome and glad the budget passed."
Nally, who won the most votes thanked the community for passing the budget and thanked her supporters.
"I look forward to serving the community," she said.
