Project Playground: Phase One Done

RJO PFO successfully raises enough money to install first phase of new playground.

A little rain couldn't dampen the spirits of the kids who eagerly awaited the ribbon cutting to the new play area at RJO Intermediate School on Thursday afternoon.

"It's bigger and better," said Kiara, a 4th grader at the school. "We don't have to bend down to reach the railings anymore."

Project Playground, a two-phase project to raise money for new playground equipment for the school, is the brainchild of PFO president Julie Lingner, RJO principal Rudy Massimo and the dream of students attending there.

"Phase on is paid for," said Lingner. "We need money for phase two now."

Phase two needs $10,000 for a deposit due by Dec. 31. So far $7,000 in donations have come in, but $3,000 is still needed.
