Kings Park Schools Adopt $79.1 Million Budget

New budget would raise the tax levy 2.92 percent is approved in the May 17 election.

 Kings Park Board of Education unanimously adopted a $79,111,079 budget for 2011-2012 on Tuesday, representing a 1.74 percent budget to budget increase and imposing a tax levy increase of 2.92 percent if passed May 17 public election.

If the budget does not pass, the board has the opportutnity to present residents with a new budget or present the same budget to be voted upon again. If residents reject the budget for a second time a contingent budget would be put in place.

The tax levy is the measure by which the general tax is imposed. The tax rate is the amount of tax paid for each increment ($1,000) of assessed property value.

Kings Park taxpayers will likely see a monthly increase in taxes of approximately $18- $25 depending on assessed property value. Below are some examples of what some homeowners might see next year.

Fora home with 2010/2011 total school taxes of $7,289, this would be the increase under the proposed budget.
