Commack Schools Open Doors To Serve as Warming, Charging Stations

Area residents who are still without power can drop by one of four Commack school buildings to get warm and charge electronics.

Commack School officials have made the decision after cancelling classes to open their school building to residents in need.

Commack School Districts have opened up four of their buildings to residents to serve as a warming station and place to charge up electronics: Commack High School, Commack Middle School, Burr Intermediate School and Mandracchia-Sawmill Intermediate School.

The four Commack Schools will be open on Monday from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m., and keep these hours until schools reopen. All children under age 21 must be accompanied by an adult or guardian.

The district published these directions for specific schools:

  • Commack High School - Park by the cafeteria (teacher's parking lot) on Townline Road. Hot showers are available. Bring soap and a towel.
  • Commack Middle School - Park in front of school, and use the front cafeteria entrance on Vanderbilt Parkway.
  • Burr Intermediate School - Please park on the side, and enter through the cafeteria entrance.
  • John Mandracchia-Sawmill Intermediate School- Please park in the side lot, and enter through the cafeteria.

Once schools are back in session, school officials say the above warming and charging stations will be open from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.
