Practical Benefits of a Strong Back and regular exercise.

As we get older a strong back can reduce pain.

Just finished vacuuming my pool for about an hour. As I was doing this I was consciously aware of how good I felt. Bending over, stretching and just standing all felt fine. That has not been the case for a long time.

Two years ago, weighing upwards of 230 lbs. and with no exercise, it was painful going to my St. John’s Redstorm basketball games at Carnesecca Arena. And this pain was not from the early season loss to Fordham. Sitting  on the backless bench seating was more than agony. It was impossible. I would stand, pace, stretch and sneak into the cushioned good seats with backs.

Since then, weight loss and a targeted back training routine has made a world of difference. Last season, while the games were even more painful to watch, the back was fine. It was good like an 8 out of 10 compared with the 2 of 10 the year before.

Now the pool is easy. Playing with the grandkids a painless delight. All of the day to day activities are suddenly enjoyable. And aren’t these things the bottom line in our efforts to get into better physical shape?
