Readers' Choice: Best Sporting Goods Store

With spring here, locals are participating in a variety of sports. But where do you go to get your needed supplies?

April is here and kids across Kings Park, Smithtown, Commack and Hauppauge are playing baseball, softball, lacrosse and soccer. While youngsters need cleats, bats, lacrosse sticks and gloves, the warm weather also brings out the bikers, boaters and sport fishers.

This week, Patch wants to know what sporting goods store you trust to buy your needed gear.

Readers’ Choice is a weekly feature where we ask you – our readers – to tell us your top picks on the businesses and local attractions that get your loyalty.
Each Monday we’ll list our nominees recommendations. Did we leave your go-to spot off the list? Go ahead and add it in comments.

On Friday we’ll tabulate all of the poll votes, comments, recent directory reviews and emails and crown a Reader’s Choice. Please only vote once in the poll, because any attempt to game the results could end up in your favorite businesses being disqualified.

Here are our nominees:

Port Jefferson Sporting Goods

Lacrosse Unlimited

Sports Authority, Smith Haven Mall

Dick's Sporting Goods

Modell's Sporting Goods

Sports Authority, Commack

Strike Zone

Grand Slam Tennis

There's a 'Lost Dog' sign and a picture of a German Shepard in the window of Edelweis Deli.

I just saw this dog running down sunken meadow rd. on Monday afternoon around 4:45. We tried callingRead More it but it ran into the st. johnland nursing home and wouldn't come to me when I tried calling it over. It looks like a shepherd mix and seems a little frightened. I called smithtown animal shelter but no one answered.

A dog matching this description was just on my street, Lyn Oak Lane, on Monday afternoon. I calledRead More Smithtown Animal Shelter but they wouldn't come. I tried to get the dog but he would not come and growled. The dog does not have a collar on.
